WHY VIRTUAL ASSISTANT?

As I have mentioned in my previous blog, How I Started, I wanted to have my dreams all at the same time --- being a housewife, managing a business, and having a career. Being a virtual assistant is the answer to all of those dreams.

BEING A HOUSEWIFE. I have always dreamed of waking up seeing my kids and my husband, preparing food for them, and taking care of them. I must admit, I am a stage mom. I always want to be with my kids in every milestone that they achieve. I never want to miss any of their school and social activities. And how can I do that if I am working as an employee, thus I want to run my own business.

MANAGING A BUSINESS. I have this thought that when I manage my own business, I will have all the chances to take my time at my own phase and at my own will. I am the boss of my own. However, it was not everything that I've thought. I will have no income if I do not work eagerly. I will not meet our needs if I will take my time so much and not push harder. Being my own boss entails a lot of self-encouragement and self-discipline, and those are my struggles. My husband is the one who has a lot of will power to do that so he is mainly the one managing our business. Then suddenly, I've felt that I need to have a career of my own.

HAVING A CAREER. Because of the connotation that I am a UP graduate, every one around me expects me to be at an executive level of a multinational company by now. They look up so much to me and somehow feel disappointed that I end up being a housewife. Of course, why would I care if this is what makes me happy?! However, there is an inner desire in me that I want to achieve something in the field of being a careerwoman. That is where the idea of being a virtual assistant came to my mind.

I will have a career and will be working for a client so I am not totally the boss. I can decide how many clients I will take so I can also dictate how much I can earn in a month and that is a business. I can fulfill my job as a housewife because I will be working from home. And that is JACKPOT!

STEPS I MADE

So what did I do? How did I start? I asked. I researched. I enrolled. I pushed myself.

I asked a friend about this two years ago and she advised me to make an account in Upwork. She was my client in our financial services business and I got inspired on how she makes a living by being a virtual assistant. So I created an account in Upwork. But being the person that lacks consistency in life, I just created an account but did not push through.

During this pandemic, I got inspired again in being a virtual assistant, so I researched about it. I saw some free courses to enroll but I chose to pay so that I will be forced to finish the course. I paid for Social Media Management course by Paolo Speaks. As expected, I only finished three out of six modules. I always found myself asleep whenever I watch the video. It became a lullaby to my ear.

But I believe God wants me to be here. He supplies me ways to be in this path. The bestfriend of my buddy is a virtual assistant for two years. I know her story, her struggles, but what caught my interest is when I found out that she is earning almost 300k every month. I was like, "Really? Is that for real?" So when I saw her post that she is looking for someone who can work for her client as Executive Assistant, I did not blow off the chance. I signified my interest and she entrusted me with the job. What I only asked of her is to provide me a laptop because my goal is just to have an on-the-job experience since I do not have the self-discipline to focus with the online course that I enrolled to. And you know what, I do enjoy what I am doing and that leads me to aspire more to upgrade my skills as a virtual assistant. That is the reason why I met Filipino Virtual Assistance Coaching by Kathy Cabradilla. I attended one of her coaching sessions for just 200 pesos and I did learn a lot. However, I want to learn more so I grabbed the slot she offered me for a Freelancing Course.

REALIZATIONS

This made me realize that sometimes you really need to have that anchor for you to push with your dreams. Many say that it is your greatest why which will motivate you to reach your goals in life. That is true, but you will still need "anchors" in your life to be the right vehicles for you to get there. And that is why I will be forever grateful to Pamela Alviar and Filipino Virtual Assistance by Coach Kathy because they are the ones who give me the ride to reach my destination.
